Photoshop World – Professional Portfolio Reviews

NOTE: Last week, I asked our Twitter Followers for their Photoshop World-related questions. I’m still fielding questions over there, so just DM or “@” reply me with your questions.

So far, most of your questions were about the Portfolio Reviews at Photoshop World. Portfolio Reviews are just one of the many perks Photoshop World Offers. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sit down with a world-class professional photographer for a one-on-one session filled with advice and constructive criticism.

Here’s a handy Portfolio Review FAQ from your questions…

When do Portfolio Reviews take place?

Portfolio Reviews are a “one day only” event. The Conference reviews take place between 1:30pm – 4:30pm on Wednesday, March 24th

Will it be on the Expo Floor?

No. This year, portfolio reviews will take place in a separate room near the Expo floor. There will be signs up, but check your conference schedule map too.

Can I just show up with my portfolio?

NO. Anyone interested in getting a review must pre-register here at least 2 weeks before Photoshop World. If you really want a portfolio review, I’d register ASAP because the slots fill up fast and are strictly awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. NOTE: Please make sure you register to attend Photoshop World before you sign up for a review.

When/how will I know if I’m scheduled for a review?

All reviews are scheduled in the order in which they are received. Helene Glassman will contact you once she has confirmed you a time slot.

Who are the reviewers?

Portfolio reviews are conducted by Jim DiVitale, Helene Glassman, Moose Peterson, Eddie Tapp, Vincent Versace, Jack Reznicki, and David Ziser, with more to be announced.

What if I ~really~ want a review from a specific photographer?

There’s no harm in asking. Plus, make sure you answer all the questions on the registration form. Helene Glassman does all the scheduling (Thanks Helene!) and she does her absolute best to match each portfolio with the best possible reviewer.

But I’m a graphic designer, not a photographer. Can I get a review?

Yes! Just be sure to write that you are interested in a graphic design review on your registration form so we can accommodate accordingly.

How long do the reviews last?

The portfolio review session itself runs from 1:30pm – 4:30pm. You Will see one reviewer and your session is limited to 15 minutes. Just make sure you arrive at your appointed time

Should I bring my physical portfolio with me or just my laptop?

We request you bring 10-15 prints no smaller than 5×7 and no larger than 11×14,but if you bring a digital portfolio you must use your own laptop and no web site reviews, as there is no WiFi available.

Ok, how much extra is this going to cost?

Ahhh… Here’s the best part. Portfolio Reviews are 100% FREE! To get a review of this caliber… well, you’d probably have to pull some strings and would certainly need to live near one of these amazing photographers, but at Photoshop World, this awesome opportunity is simply yours for the taking! … but did I mention the need to sign up early?

If you still have more questions about the Portfolio Reviews, please leave a comment here and I will do my best to answer them right away.

See you in Orlando!

  • Erika,
I have some pictures that I will be posting today. I’m sorry I didn’t get to it during PSW but please check back. =)

  • I use Photoshop to create my personal work portfolio, so I think it would be great to have some “art” critic, curator, or gallerist in the reviewers.

  • I submitted a request for a review back on June 19th. How do I know if I got a spot or if they were already taken?

  • I signed up for a portfolio review when I registered-just prior to the early registration deadline, but I haven’t heard back from anyone yet. It’s only 5 days from now until the convention. What’s up?

  • I am going to register onsite on 10/1. Do I have any remote chances of hoping to get a spot for either design review or photography review?

    Comment by Payal Mehta — September 28, 2009 @ 3:29 pm

  • Unfortunately the deadline for a portfolio/design review was 2 weeks ago… but you never know what can happen thru networking. =)

  • Is it to late to sign up for a review? I am a Nature and Wildlife Photographer and would love a review by the “Master” Moose Peterson.

Please le tme know if this is still available.

  • Yep! Just fill out the Portfolio Request form. Just make sure you’re registered first before you send in your request. =) The deadline for requests is 2 weeks prior to PSW.
